1978 TECHNICS SA-1000 MONSTER RECEIVER

The Most Powerful of All

The 1978 Technics SA-1000, which retailed for $1,800.00 and weighed in at 87 lbs., is generally considered to be the most powerful Stereo Receiver ever made, based upon Manufacturer's specifications . Rated at a mind-blowing 330 w/ch RMS it was only 30 watts per channel than the Marantz 2600 and the Sansui G33000.

I've tried long and hard to get a SA-1000 for my Monster Receiver collection. However, the closest I've come is the "little brother", the Technics SA-800 pictured above. It is only slightly smaller than the SA-1000, and, with the exception of a few minor controls is virtually indistinguishable. Complete specs on the SA-1000, and all the Technics Receivers can be found at Vintage Technics.

On the lower left, is a photo comparing the SA-800 and the SA-1000. The rest of the photos here are of the SA-800, but, since they're so close in appearance, they should give you a feel of what the SA-1000 was like.
