1974 YAMAHA CR-1000 MONSTER RECEIVER

The "Natural Sound"

The 1974 Yamaha CR-1000 retailed for $850.00  and was built in response to the Pioneer SX-1010 and the Marantz 2325. Although rated at "only" 100 w/ch RMS, it had a sophisticated design and was aimed at the "elite" end of the audio market. Instead of the "blue light" look of Pioneer and Marantz, Yamaha adopted a minimalist approach with a "slide-rule" style dial pointer where only the "slide" was illuminated.

The CR-1000 continued the "slide" theme by having most of the major controls mounted on sliders, which was unique at the time and gave the CR-1000 a very distinctive appearance. It also had a relativley unique (if that makes any sense) adjustable FM Muting feature, as well as 3-levels of Phono impedance on the rear panel.
